A regenerator is one of the key parts in a highly efficient form of force, a Stirling engine in which a piston pushes trapped gas back and forth between a heat source (such as a fire) and a place where heat is lost (“a sink”). The type and size of the heat exchanger used can be tailored to one method, depending on the type of liquid, its phase, temperature, density, viscosity, pressure, chemical composition and various other thermodynamic properties. These exchangers consist of many thin, slightly separated plates, which have very large surfaces and small liquid flows for heat transfer. Plate and shell technology provides high heat transfer, high pressure, high operating temperature, compact size, low contamination and close-up temperature. As already mentioned, in two-phase heat exchangers, one or more liquids undergo a phase change during the heat transfer process, which changes from either a liquid to a gas or to a gas to a liquid. In buses, liquid used to cool the diesel engine is often passed through a heat exchanger, and the heat it reclaims is used to warm cold air from the outside, which is inflated from the bottom of the passenger compartment. Micro-channel heat exchangers are characterized by a high heat transfer ratio, low refrigerant charges, compact size and lower air pressure losses compared to finned heat exchangers. A wide range of applications are used and a variety of these heat exchangers are designed and manufactured for use in heating and cooling processes. Some of the available shell and tubular heat exchangers are spiral coil heat exchangers and twin-tube heat exchangers, and some of the applications include preheating, oil cooling and steam generation. Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of molecules in a material — warmer objects (which are at a higher temperature) show more molecular motion. For static regenerators (also known as fixed regenerators), the material and components of the heat exchanger remain standing because liquids flow through the equipment, while in dynamic regenerators the material and components move during the heat transfer process. In single-phase heat exchangers, liquids do not phase change during the entire heat transfer process, which means that both the warmer and cooler liquids remain in the same state as they penetrate the heat exchanger. Figure 4: Heat transfer in a double-tube heat exchanger plate heat exchanger Also called a plate heat exchanger, plate heat exchangers made of several thin, corrugated plates joined plates are interchangeable. If one of the liquids has components in several stages (solids, liquids and gases), which tend to cause mechanical problems during operations, such as the insertion of pipes of small diameter. Carbon nanotubes, for example (thin hexagonal carbon plates, which are wrapped into “pipes”), have amazing heat-conducting properties and are already used in heat sinks (heat removal devices, which are mainly used in electronics). On the other hand, regenerative heat exchangers, also called capacitive heat exchangers or regenerators, allow warmer and cooler liquids to flow through the same channel alternately. In order to save energy and cooling capacity in chemical and other plants, regenerative heat exchangers can transfer heat from a stream that needs to be cooled to another stream that needs to be heated, such as distillate cooling and preheat preheating. Since water expands when freezing, these somewhat expensive and difficult to replace thin-walled heat exchangers can easily be damaged or destroyed by just one freezing point. Warm, stuffy air flowing out of the building (orange pipe obliquely from the top right to the bottom left) gives its warmth to cold, fresh air that flows in from the outside (brown pipe diagonally from the top left to the bottom right). When designing the pipes in the shell and tubular heat exchangers, several thermal design features must be taken into account: there can be many variations in the shell and the tubular heat exchangers.
